Network Bandwidth Estimator
Estimate internet bandwidth from user count, concurrency, per-user demand, and capacity headroom
Estimate internet bandwidth for a user population
This estimator combines total users, expected concurrency, per-active-user bandwidth, and a configurable capacity reserve to produce a simple WAN planning estimate.
How to estimate network bandwidth
- Enter the population that may use the network.
- Estimate the percentage likely to be active at the same time.
- Choose a per-active-user Mbps estimate and add capacity headroom.
Understand the estimate
The result is a planning baseline, not a promise of application quality. Per-user demand varies with video resolution, cloud backups, voice, software updates, and peak activity. Check measured busy-hour usage where available, account for service-level and redundancy needs, and validate the capacity with your ISP and network design.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. It estimates aggregate capacity from the assumptions entered. Actual experience depends on traffic patterns, contention, Wi-Fi performance, latency, ISP delivery, and application behavior.
Headroom adds room for demand variation and growth. It increases the calculated WAN capacity above the basic concurrent-user estimate.
